DOUGLAS COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY TO BE CLOSED FOR OVER A YEAR DURING $5 MILLION RENOVATION
Earlier this month, a request for proposal was placed on the West Georgia Regional Library System website for book relocation services for the Douglas County Public Library.
The library system was soliciting proposals from moving companies to provide services to a temporary storage location. All library materials will be packed in numbered boxes and moved to the temporary storage location until the renovation is complete.
Renovations are expected to begin on May 1, 2025. They are estimated to be complete in July 2026.
Renovations include a new roof, new HVAC, updated electrical, plumbing, construction of an exterior canopy at the main entrance, associated site walls, new storefront window systems throughout, application of masonry paint to all exterior brick walls, demolition of a small garage on-site, construction of a family restroom in the children’s library, workspace/cubicles for nine employees, a tech lab/business center, public display case, ADA compliant circulation desk with three workstations and book return, outdoor programming space, recoating of current shelving, maximizing storage space and incorporation of book lockers for after-hours materials pickup.
